Quilt Scouts - Base Camp 206
We’re so excited to become your Seattle-area Quilt Scouts Base Camp!
Quilt Scouts is the ultimate quilting support system—a fun, low-pressure way to grow your skills while connecting with a community of fellow quilters. Think of it like Block of the Month, but without the commitment of a year-long project. Instead, each month features a new quilting-related theme and a corresponding badge you can earn along the way!
How Quilt Scouts Works
Each month, we’ll gather to explore the current theme, learn new techniques, and talk through ideas for earning that month’s badge. There are no tests and no pressure—it’s all on the honor system and all about learning, sharing, and having fun.
Between meetings, you can stay connected by interacting with Quilt Scouts across the country through the official Quilt Scouts Circle Community, sharing inspiration, progress, and encouragement along the way.
Join us for this informational session to learn more about Quilt Scouts and how to jump into this as we kick things off together!

Needles: Let's Get to the Point
Small tool. Big impact: let’s talk machine needles.
Match your needle to your fabric, thread & technique!
Your sewing machine needle may be small, but it does a lot of the heavy lifting. And yes—the type of needle you use really matters.
Most sewists reach for a universal needle by default, but it’s not always the best match for the job. In this session, we’ll break down how to choose the right machine needle based on your fabric, thread, and sewing technique—so your stitches look better and your projects go smoother.
We’ll also share easy, no-squint tips for identifying needles straight from the packaging (no decoding tiny engravings required). We’ll wrap things up with a quick look at hand-sewing needles, too.
What You’ll Learn
• How to choose the right machine needle for different fabrics
• When a universal needle works—and when it doesn’t
• How thread and technique affect needle choice • Easy ways to identify needles without squinting at tiny engravings
• A quick overview of hand-sewing needles

Navigating Special Occasion Fabrics
Master Fabric Selection for Special-Occasion Sewing
Thinking about making a special-occasion dress or outfit—but feeling overwhelmed by fabric choices? Not sure where to start, or just curious about what’s out there? This TalkShop is designed to give you the textile knowledge you need to choose fabrics with confidence.
We’ll explore the wide world of special-occasion fabrics and break down how their characteristics—like drape, volume, weight, and handfeel—affect the final look of a garment. You’ll learn how to match fabric choices to the silhouette you want to achieve and how fiber content and weave play a key role in both appearance and performance.
Whether you’re planning a formal gown, a cocktail dress, or a statement outfit, this session will help you make informed, intentional fabric decisions before you ever cut your first piece!
