Quiltbound Chapter #206 Meeting

August Badges: Upcycle a Quilt & Quilt Repair

The Upcycle a Quilt Badge celebrates giving an old, damaged, unfinished, or unused quilt a new purpose. This badge is about creative problem-solving, sustainability, and turning something that might otherwise sit forgotten into something useful, wearable, decorative, or loved again.
The Quilt Repair Badge celebrates the practical, caring work of helping a quilt live a longer life. This badge invites members to look closely at a damaged or worn quilted item, choose an appropriate repair approach, and make at least one thoughtful fix. It is part problem-solving, part preservation, and part tiny textile rescue mission.
This month is all about giving those old, worn or abandoned quilts and quilt tops a glow up. We will go over some of the most common areas where quilts tend to wear out and how to preserve them – it’s not just about hiding the damage. Projects that start with quilts at all levels of completion and fabric condition will be covered. It’s time for out of the box thinking and experimentation. We will even briefly dip a toe into the murky world of t-shirt quilts.
I know there are a lot of strong opinions regarding repurposing and cutting up old quilts. I like to remember that our quilting ancestors started making quilts more out of necessity rather than a hobby. It was all about not wasting expensive and precious fabric and giving worn out textiles (often clothing) a new life which is exactly what upcycling is. If you can’t bear the idea of cutting into something you or a family member has made, check out local thrift stores and give a discarded quilt a new life. But please leave any haunted quilts where you found them! (I may have found one in our backroom… Eep!)
Feel free to keep bringing in fabric and scraps to each meeting to share and/or swap. Anything that isn’t claimed will be donated to Project Linus.
Quiltbound is a creative quilting world for adventurous makers — a place to learn new skills, make meaningful projects, find your people, and take the scenic route through quilting. Along the way you’ll earn badges as you complete themed challenges, try new techniques, and explore different areas of quilting. Whether you’re a seasoned stitcher or just starting out, there’s something for everyone!
Each month is a badge based quilting adventure designed to help you build skills, stay motivated and celebrate progress – without pressure or perfection. Each Chapter meeting is a local gathering of quilters who want more than just finishing projects—they want connection, creativity, and a reason to show up.
Why should you join? Quilting is more fun with friends, goals, and a little adventure! Start your journey today and stitch your way to badge-worthy achievements!
Meetings will take place on the second Saturday OR third Thursday at 10:30 each month. Please remember to sign up for each month’s meeting.
Please remember that meetings are exclusively for Quilt Scout members and you need to be current on your national dues.
