Wendy's Garden Blooms

On a visit to our Northgate store last week, the lovely Wendy (Assistant Manager), was wearing a stunning flower in her hair. When I asked about it, she enthusiastically showed me more - all her own design! (Click on the pictures to see a larger image.) Her first flower was inspired by a necklace she had seen and wanted to copy. Accessories are an area where you can save a LOT of money by making your own. Isn't this gorgeous? And here's a close-up. Amazing what you can do with a few snips of taffeta or ribbon, some gathered tulle and a cool button! As you can see when you click on the picture for the larger image, Wendy sears the edges with a match or lighter to prevent raveling. Make sure your little ones are safe when you do this and keep your fingers well back from the flame. Holding the petal with tweezers while searing is a very good idea! On top of the ribbon case near the Galleria , Wendy showed me three more blooms from her "garden". I love the red and black posy! It's made with black lace as the back and top layers. Aren't these fun? Wendy does caution that they are addictive, but isn't that just the way it is with flowers? And these last forever! If you need help or have a question, drop by the Northgate store and ask for Wendy. If she's not there, someone else will be glad to help. And, if you haven't been to the Galleria department of the store before - oh, my - you must go! Sumptuous fabrics and trims to die for. It's our special occasion and bridal department, but the possibilities for everyday accessory projects (and other totally fun things!) are infinite. Have fun creating your own garden, and when you're done send us a picture or post it on our Brag page so we can all see! ~ Annette |

Very pretty. I remember making formal dresses years ago and making some embellishments like these.by Kathy Romans on 15 May 2012 at 4:41 p.m.
