Good For the Earth, Good For You

Posted by Annette on Friday, April 27th, 2012

Earth Day 2012 has just passed, but I know we all want to take care of our "home" all year long. At Pacific Fabrics, we come from a long-standing tradition of recycling and thinking about ways to give back. Our roots date back to 1917 and a horse-drawn wagon that gathered cast-offs and offered them to customers who put them to good use! Click here to read our story.

Fast-forwarding to the present, we are always on the look-out for organic and other eco-friendly products to offer you and you'll find a few of the fabrics and yarns we have in most of our stores and on our web site right now.

Pure Organics collection

Let's start with our fabulous Pure Organics collection from Robert Kaufman. We love Kaufman's commitment to offering organic fabric collections when possible and are please to carry these solid quilting cottons in 100% Organic Cotton. I picked a few summery shades and some basics to show you here. You'll find 13 colors on our web site and at most of our stores. Deliciously lovely and pesticide-free for you and your quilts and espeicially nice for babies and children!

Organic Cottons

You'll also enjoy Robert Kaufman's Organic Cotton print collections. Stitch Organic is shown at the top of this picture and you'll find Pick a Bunch on the bottom. As you can see, the Pure Organics solids coordinate very  nicely with these two 100% Organic Cotton collections!

Oasis Organic Canvas

One of our all-time favorites, Oasis Organic Cotton Canvas from Marcus Brothers, is on our web site and back in our stores. After a short break, we are thrilled to have this fabulous canvas back in stock. It's versatility for jackets, totes, seat covers and more make it a go-to fabric for all seasons! Over a dozen colors to choose from and you'll find it at all our stores.

Nature's choice

We have some great earth-friendly options for you yarnies, too! Let's start with one of my faves - Lion Brand Nature's Choice Organic Cotton. I love the bumpity texture and sweet soft feel of this yarn. The worsted weight is perfect for summer throws or baby blankets and it makes a nice Spring scarf, too. You'll find yummy colors at all our stores.

Even though we're headed into warmer weather, this is the time of year when I plan my cool weather projects. It takes me awhile to finish a project, so if I start now then I have my cozy things done when it cools off!

Eco Duo & Scarf

That leads me to Cascade Yarns Eco Duo, one of my very favorite earth-friendly yarns. Made from undyed baby alpaca and undyed merino wool, you just can't find a lovelier combo. The natural colors are so soft and warm and the yarn is just a dream to work with! Check it out and think about making the Cabled Scarf you see here. It's a free pattern from Cascade Yarns.

Lana Babu & Jacket

To finish up, I know you'll love Cascade Yarns amazingly gorgeous Lana Bambu ! Now on our web site as well as in our stores, the array of six softly variegated colors is truly stunning. Try Cascade's free  Faux Circle Jacket shown here or stitch up a warm scarf or hat to put in your "ready for Winter" stash.
