A Royal Dress

Doesn't she look regal?
A few weeks ago, Cathy, our SODO Seattle Assistant Manager, asked me for some advice about a gorgeous, sheer knit, beaded fabric she was using for a special occasion dress. She appropriately chose a simple two-piece dress pattern that she had made before. Just what the fabric needed, but the pattern was for a woven. I've worked with a lot of knits and knew there would be no problem, though! We chose a woven lining fabric that she attached to the knit and then used the fabric as one, so it now behaved as a woven. (Click on the pictures to see larger images.)
I knew the dress was for an event that had now passed and asked her yesterday how it turned out, so she sent me pictures. Hurray - I can share this with you now! Isn't it stunning!? I'm just thrilled with how the dress turned out for her. This is a closer look at the bodice and the fabulous beading.
Cathy chose a coordinating solid to make the lovely jackets that her fellow participants are wearing and used McCall's 6468 (shown below) to make jackets for each of them. What a nice thing to do! Isn't this fun? A little fabric, a simple design, some sewing skill and time and WOW! What a great presentation for a special moment!
If you have fun things you've made, we'd love to see them, too. Just click here to visit our Brag Photos Page and follow the instructions to share your projects with all of us. No limit - come back as often as you'd like. We'd love to see what you've made!
P.S. Cathy used the last of the wonderful beaded fabric, but you'll find many more equally splendid things in our stores!
I Love bead embellishments. I love the purple color and the fun pattern you used. I added the pattern and beaded fabric to my next Pacific shopping list. Beware! Duchess Kate Middleton will be calling to ask if she can borrow your outfit!by Monica (poulsbo) on 28 April 2012 at 10:19 a.m.
