I am a big fan of Pacific Fabrics. In fact I bought the fabric for my bridesmaid’s dresses from Pacific Fabrics almost 38 years ago. Since then I have been a loyal customer, most recently as a beginning knitter. My knitting inspiration is a very dear friend of mine Welcome Mae McKown who lives in a very small town in Virginia and is 94 years young. Welcome Mae has been knitting for over 70 years. I often send her yarns from Pacific Fabrics. She patiently encouraged me to start knitting about 5 years ago. I have not stopped knitting since. Welcome Mae is the mother of my dearest friend Barbara Dallas who was taken from us too soon from breast cancer. I started knitting baby booties from my Pacific Fabrics yarn ends to donate in her honor. To date we have donated over 100 pairs of Baby Booties in Barbara's memory to needy children in the Pacific Northwest. Once I mastered the booties that has led to the beginning of my journey and many fun projects from materials purchased at Pacific Fabrics.
I have just completed a most interesting piece, a Prayer Shawl using all novelty yarns from the new SODO Seattle 4th Ave. Store. Each section is a different novelty yarn and is filled with color and delight. ~ Lynda |

Thank you for telling Welcome Mae's story. She is an insiration! She loves the Superwash 220 wool. I have sent her seveal colors. She has knit me over 25 pairs of socks and probably hundres in her life time. Her younger daughter daughter Francis is an RN and has put her career on hold to be Welcome Mae's full time caregiver. Francis is a true Angel, and is starting to crochet and Knitting is soon to follow!by Lynda on 29 September 2011 at 5:58 p.m.
