Lace Knitting - My Love-Hate Relationship

Posted by pacificfabrics on Wednesday, August 17th, 2011

I have a passionate love-hate affair with lace. Hate because its so easy to make mistakes. Love since its so beautifully drapey, airy but warm.

The shawl's beginning

With the Live Oak Shawl by Romi Hill it was all Love. I started it on Monday night last week (8-7), finished the plain knitting on the top.

Finished Shawl

Then I started in on the lace knitting. I fell in love with the pattern. It was just easy enough for me to knit in front of the TV but so engaging were the complexities of the pattern that I ended up knitting until 5 am one night. In 5 Days, I finished this lovely shawl.

The only disappointment I have is ... now its done. Maybe I should make another, now where are those needles.

  • I only added one repeat to the shawl but it did require me to get another skein of yarn. Because the pattern increases symmetrically, I ended up with more repeats. Intermediate? Definitely! just remember to add stitch markers and use a lifeline.

  • How many more repeats did you add to the pattern? You have more leaves than the original in the Fall 2011 Knitscene. I love the length...

  • This looks gorgeous. Would you say its intermediate. I've tackled some lace and like doing it but fear it too cause I can get lost so easily. Maybe I'll give it a try. Maggie
