Grandma Dot's Yummy, Useful Pies

Pie. What's not to love? Juicy fruit encased in flaky, lovely pastry arranged in aesthetically pleasing lattices and twists.

Grandma Dot's Raspberry Pie

So when we got a pattern from Seams Like Fun for Grandma Dot's Fruit Pie Hot Pads, I was the first to take it home and make myself a couple of pies. The pattern, I'm happy to report, is easy, clear and fun to make. I made the first (raspberry) one just as the pattern suggested, topstitching my lattice and handstitching on rick-rack, and I thought it might be the cutest potholder I've ever made.

So I took it into Northgate to show it off, and Deb suggested that I twist the rick-rack for a twisted pastry crust. I tried it out on the blackberry pie potholder, as well as using 1/2" Steam-a-Seam for the lattice instead of topstitching, and now I know, that is the cutest potholder I've ever made.
