Grandma Dot's Yummy, Useful Pies

Pie. What's not to love? Juicy fruit encased in flaky, lovely pastry arranged in aesthetically pleasing lattices and twists.
So when we got a pattern from Seams Like Fun for Grandma Dot's Fruit Pie Hot Pads, I was the first to take it home and make myself a couple of pies. The pattern, I'm happy to report, is easy, clear and fun to make. I made the first (raspberry) one just as the pattern suggested, topstitching my lattice and handstitching on rick-rack, and I thought it might be the cutest potholder I've ever made.
So I took it into Northgate to show it off, and Deb suggested that I twist the rick-rack for a twisted pastry crust. I tried it out on the blackberry pie potholder, as well as using 1/2" Steam-a-Seam for the lattice instead of topstitching, and now I know, that is the cutest potholder I've ever made. ~ Anna-Beth |
