Making baskets and bags from fabric strips is fun and so easy using patterns from Aunties Two (like the Biscuit Basket shown above) and CRAF-TEX Stabilizer.
CRAF-TEX is a stiff, heavy-weight stabilizer that is great for sewing and crafts. I've used it in the bottom of tote bags and fabric covered boxes. It's sold by the yard, in one-yard packages and now in a convenient pre-cut roll of 1-3/4" strips. The Biscuit Basket and our new Pacific Coast Beach Bag (shown above) patterns from Aunties Two are made by sewing 2-1/2" fabric strips together to form a tube that you thread CRAF-TEX strips through. This creates stiffened fabric strips that are then woven together to make baskets and bags. They're beautiful and very useful for storage, decoration or for use as a gift basket.
These are easy projects to make and I've discovered a tool that makes it even easier - Dritz Ezy-Pull Bodkin! I use this tweezer-like tool when threading the CRAF-TEX Strips through the tubes of sewn fabric strips and it makes it go so fast. I'll be showing how to use CRAF-TEX and other stabilizers at our free Creative U Seminars in May, so plan to stop by! You'll learn step-by-step how to make beautiful Baskets, Boxes and Bags. We're offering classes you'll enjoy at a couple of our stores, too. Check out Pacific Coast Bag and More Than a Biscuit Basket. See you at Creative U! ~ Crafty Chris |
