Tuesday Tip - Starch Without Mess

Is Spray Starch one of those quilting "tools" that you have a love/hate relationship with?
At the Sewing & Stitchery Expo a few weeks ago, I picked up a great tip while attending one of the seminars presented by Dodi Poulsen of Two Sisters at Squirrel Hollow. You'll love this!
Many quilters like to use Spray Starch to stabilize their fabrics before cutting them, but hate the mess it makes on their iron. Dodi has a simple solution! Lay your fabric out with the wrong side facing up and spray this side lightly with starch.
Now fold your fabric wrong sides together and press on the right side. Isn't that cool? You've stabilized your fabric but kept the starch from messing up your iron. So easy - I just loved this!
By the way, our favorite "starch" is Mary Ellen's Best Press Clear Starch Alternative. Mary Ellen's leaves no residue, doesn't flake and it contains no acid. And I love that it comes in yummy light scents or non-scented. I chose 'Cherry Blossom' this time, because I'm longing for Spring! You can find it at all of our stores - give it a try and watch for more Tuesday Tips in the coming weeks. ~ Annette |

This is one of those "duh" tips, that is SO obvious when you read it but never thought of it yourself. Thanks Annette and Dodi!by Judy S on 16 March 2011 at 7:55 a.m.
